Encore - Talk after the performance with Maria-Ange Nguci
The Zuger Sinfonietta kicks off the second season of the Zuger Klassik Season with Saint-Saëns’ breathtakingly virtuoso piano concerto No. 2. The solo is expertly handled by French-Albanian pianist Marie-Ange Nguci, whose style has seen her grab international headlines and establish herself as the foremost performer of this piano concerto.
The programme also includes «Le Tombeau de Couperin», a moving and musically delicate work in which Ravel dedicated every movement to a different friend who had fallen during the First World War. For this personal homage, he was inspired by the French Baroque suite and by François Couperin (1668–1733). The two «Carmen» suites conclude the opening of the Zuger Klassik Season with these exhilarating, emotionally-charged and always eye-opening extracts from Georges Bizet’s famous opera of the same name.
